Varicose Veins

Varicose veins are swollen, distorted veins that appear blue through the skin. Varicose veins form when the valve in the veins does not function properly, preventing proper blood flow. Common risk factors include heredity, pregnancy, old age, and obesity. Symptoms of swelling and weakness in the legs are often amplified by a long day of standing or sitting. Learn more about proper treatment options.

Spider Veins

Spider veins are smaller than varicose veins. They appear red, blue or purple under the skin and may look like a tree root branching out. Although they are most common on the legs, they can also develop on the face. Symptoms present may include aching, burning, itching and night cramps. Injections eliminate veins quickly and with minimal recovery.

Restless Leg Syndrome

Restless legs syndrome causes uncomfortable sensations in the legs, which leads to a strong desire to move them. Once the movement in the leg stops, the painful sensation returns.  Most often symptoms manifest while a person is trying to rest, making sleep difficult. Treatment can help those affected return to a normal, healthy sleep pattern.

Dr. Strobel

Bringing Interventional Radiology to Cache Valley

Meet Dr. John Strobel, an Interventional Radiologist who received his Bachelor of Science and Medical Doctorate from Creighton University. Here he was a member of Phi Beta Cappa. Dr. Strobel gained even more specific credentials in his field by completing residencies in Internal Medicine at Creighton University and Diagnostic Radiology at the University of Nebraska, where he served as Chief Resident. He has been helping patients relieve suffering and live a better life for over 20 years, with his extensive knowledge in Interventional Radiology.

Why an Interventional Radiologist?
Interventional Radiology is a medical specialty of radiology that uses image-guided, minimally invasive procedures to minimize risk and improve patient outcomes. Although nearly 30 million Americans will be affected by vein diseases, less than 6.5% seek treatment. Our goal is to change this by continually improving techniques that offer less risk, less pain and less recovery time compared to open surgery.

Why a Vein Clinic

What is vein disease?

Healthy veins have one-way valves that keep blood flowing toward the heart against the force of gravity. When these valves become weak and don’t close properly, they allow blood to flow backward, a condition called reflux. Veins that have lost their valve effectiveness, become elongated, rope-like, bulged, and thickened. These enlarged, swollen vessels are known as varicose veins.

Common risk factors include:

  • Age
  • Family history
  • Female gender
  • Pregnancy, especially multiple pregnancies

Symptoms of vein disease may include:

  • Visible varicose or spider veins
  • Aching leg pain
  • Leg cramps or restlessness
  • Heaviness or leg fatigue
  • Itching or burning
  • Leg swelling or tightness
  • Darkening ankle skin
  • Slow healing leg wounds or ulcers

Many people find they need to sit down and elevate their legs to relieve symptoms.

Client Reviews

Laser Vein Treatment Patient, Female, 38

“I appreciated that I knew what was covered by my insurance prior to my procedure to relieve me from the stress of not knowing. Staff members were friendly and welcoming. Staff was very quick but thorough; atmosphere was relaxed. I absolutely have had improvement of symptoms; I can sleep and am very active now not to mention wearing shorts for the first time since I was a teen.”

Spider Vein Patient, Female, 52

“Everything was very well explained and I was made as comfortable as possible. The medical staff was very patient with me as I had large areas of both legs to cover.”

Varicose Vein Patient, Female, 30

“I didn’t realize how much the appearance of my leg bothered me until my visit with you last week. As you asked me what brought me into the office, I could feel tears building up behind my eyes. Almost 10 years of refusing to wear shorts, hating to wear a bathing suit, and constantly trying to keep my leg completely covered has taken a larger affect on me than I realized. It was so nice to talk to someone who didn’t look at my ankle and ask if I twisted it! I am so thankful for the time you spent explaining my vascular disease and options for improvement and prevention. I felt like someone finally heard and understood my concern regarding my leg. Thank you for listening and educating……The excitement of a 30 year old!”
