Secondary Restless Leg Syndrome

About Restless Leg Syndrome

Restless leg syndrome comes in two different types, primary and secondary. This form of RLS is called secondary because it usually comes second to many things such as iron deficiency, pregnancy, end-stage renal disease, and neuropathy.

When Symptoms Show Themselves

Because of the other problems that cause secondary restless leg syndrome it usually shows up later in life for most people. Some of the most common symptoms are random itching, tingling, or crawling sensations deep within the legs. Many will feel a strong want to move these limbs to relieve these feelings.  Others may feel the need to get up and pace around in the night or just toss and turn in bed.  These urges to get up and move happen mostly when people are resting/relaxing.

About Restless Leg Syndrome

It is much easier to treat secondary restless leg syndrome than primary. Most treatments for secondary include either iron therapy or drug therapy.

Upon your visit with our great doctors they will go into more detail and help you understand what type of restless leg syndrome you have, primary or secondary. From there they will prescribe you the best treatment/medication to help with the problem.

Client Reviews

Laser Vein Treatment Patient, Female, 38

“I appreciated that I knew what was covered by my insurance prior to my procedure to relieve me from the stress of not knowing. Staff members were friendly and welcoming. Staff was very quick but thorough; atmosphere was relaxed. I absolutely have had improvement of symptoms; I can sleep and am very active now not to mention wearing shorts for the first time since I was a teen.”

Spider Vein Patient, Female, 52

“Everything was very well explained and I was made as comfortable as possible. The medical staff was very patient with me as I had large areas of both legs to cover.”

Varicose Vein Patient, Female, 30

“I didn’t realize how much the appearance of my leg bothered me until my visit with you last week. As you asked me what brought me into the office, I could feel tears building up behind my eyes. Almost 10 years of refusing to wear shorts, hating to wear a bathing suit, and constantly trying to keep my leg completely covered has taken a larger affect on me than I realized. It was so nice to talk to someone who didn’t look at my ankle and ask if I twisted it! I am so thankful for the time you spent explaining my vascular disease and options for improvement and prevention. I felt like someone finally heard and understood my concern regarding my leg. Thank you for listening and educating……The excitement of a 30 year old!”
