Varicose Veins

Varicose veins are swollen, distorted veins that appear blue through the skin. Varicose veins form when the valve in the veins does not function properly preventing proper blood flow. Common risk factors include heredity, pregnancy, old age, and obesity. Symptoms of swelling and weakness in the legs are often amplified by a long day of standing or sitting. Learn more about proper treatment options.

Varicose veins affect more than 30 million people in the United States, the majority of them women. Varicose veins are 3 mm or larger in diameter and typically develop on the legs. Most often they appear blue or purple and swollen under the skin. Without proper treatment, this condition may lead to phlebitis, leg ulcers, and brisk bleeding. Learn more about which treatment option is best for you.

Spider Veins

Spider veins are smaller than varicose veins. They appear red, blue or purple under the skin and may look like a tree root branching out. Although they are most common on the legs, they can also develop on the face. Symptoms present may include aching, burning, itching and night cramps. Injections eliminate veins quickly and with minimal recovery.

Spider veins affect one-third of the women in America. Spider veins are usually found on the legs or the face. They are red, blue, or purple veins that spread out in a spiderweb pattern most often near the surface of thighs, calves, and ankles. Cosmetic concerns and physical symptoms are both reasons to treat spider veins. Treatment involves injections that are proven effective and noninvasive.

Restless Leg

Restless legs syndrome causes uncomfortable sensations in the legs which leads to a strong desire to move them. Once the movement in the leg stops, the painful sensation returns.  Most often symptoms manifest while a person is trying to rest, making sleep difficult. Treatment can help those affected return to a normal, healthy sleep pattern.

The unpleasant feeling of tingling pain in the legs that accompanies an irresistible urge to move them is referred to as Restless Legs Syndrome. Symptoms increase in severity at night causing sleep deprivation. Help is available through discovering the source of the problem, which often includes diabetes, iron deficiencies, or peripheral neuropathy. There is the hope of finding relief and getting back to restful nights.

Other Services

Endovenous Thermal Ablation

Using ultrasound, a physician places a catheter into the varicose vein through a small opening in the skin. The tiny catheter, powered by radio-frequency (RF) energy or laser, delivers heat to the vein wall. As the thermal energy is delivered, the vein wall shrinks and the vein is sealed closed. Once the diseased vein is closed, blood is re-routed to other healthy veins.

Sclerotherapy

An extremely fine needle is used to inject the problem varicose or spider vein with a solution which shrinks the vein. The solution irritates the lining of the blood vessel, causing it to swell and stick together, and the blood to clot. Over time, the vessel turns into scar tissue that fades from view.

Ambulatory Phlebectomy

A minimally invasive surgical technique is used to treat varicose veins not caused by saphenous vein reflux. The abnormal vein is removed through a tiny incision or incisions using a special set of tools. The procedure is done under local anesthesia and typically takes under an hour. Recovery is rapid, and most patients do not need to interrupt regular activity after the procedure.

VenaSeal™

The VenaSeal™ closure system treats symptomatic venous reflux disease in the lower extremity superficial venous system, often the underlying cause of painful varicose veins. This procedure uses an adhesive to close the vein. It is the only non-thermal, non-tumescent, non-sclerosant procedure approved for use in the U.S. that uses an advanced formulated medical adhesive that closes the diseased vein.

The VenaSeal™ closure system procedure is designed to minimize patient discomfort and reduce recovery time. After the procedure, a small bandage will be placed at the access site. Patients are able to rapidly return to normal activities. Additionally, patients have reported minimal bruising following the VenaSeal™ closure system procedure. This treatment has been shown to be effective in three clinical studies, with demonstrated safety and high closure rates.
