Do Your Legs Keep You Up At Night?

Restless Leg Syndrome

About Restless Leg Syndrome

Restless Legs Syndrome is anunpleasant feeling of tingling pain in the legs that accompanies an irresistible urge to move them. Symptoms increase in severity at night causing sleep deprivation. Somewhere between 7-10 percent of the U.S. population experience RLS. Many patients seek help from their doctor because of exhaustion and daytime sleepiness that strongly affects mood, concentration, job, school performance, and personal relationships. Some people report that RLS makes it difficult to concentrate, complete daily tasks or that they suffer from impaired memory because of sleepless nights. If left untreated, moderate-to-severe RLS can cause a significant decrease in daily productivity and lead to depression and anxiety.

Two Types

There are two types of RLS, primary and secondary. Primary RLS is most often hereditary, and no known causes have been identified. Secondary RLS happens because of an underlying medical condition or the use of certain medications.  Help is available through discovering the source of the problem which often includes kidney failure, pregnancy, diabetes, iron deficiencies or peripheral neuropathy. Other factors to consider are diet, exercise, stress, and even environmental triggers that can cause RLS.

Client Reviews

Laser Vein Treatment Patient, Female, 38

“I appreciated that I knew what was covered by my insurance prior to my procedure to relieve me from the stress of not knowing. Staff members were friendly and welcoming. Staff was very quick but thorough; atmosphere was relaxed. I absolutely have had improvement of symptoms; I can sleep and am very active now not to mention wearing shorts for the first time since I was a teen.”

Spider Vein Patient, Female, 52

“Everything was very well explained and I was made as comfortable as possible. The medical staff was very patient with me as I had large areas of both legs to cover.”

Varicose Vein Patient, Female, 30

“I didn’t realize how much the appearance of my leg bothered me until my visit with you last week. As you asked me what brought me into the office, I could feel tears building up behind my eyes. Almost 10 years of refusing to wear shorts, hating to wear a bathing suit, and constantly trying to keep my leg completely covered has taken a larger affect on me than I realized. It was so nice to talk to someone who didn’t look at my ankle and ask if I twisted it! I am so thankful for the time you spent explaining my vascular disease and options for improvement and prevention. I felt like someone finally heard and understood my concern regarding my leg. Thank you for listening and educating……The excitement of a 30 year old!”
